Timmy Chan Original is a straightforward Chinese restaurant located off S Loop W in Houston, offering a casual dining and takeout experience. Its no-frills atmosphere leans toward being functional rather than cozy, with a dining room that feels a bit busy and a space that’s partly scaled back in seating but still available for those who prefer to eat in rather than just grab food to go.

The menu reflects classic Chinese-American comfort food staples, with popular choices like Sweet & Sour Chicken, Chicken Lo Mein, General Tso’s Chicken with Steamed Rice, and Shrimp Fried Rice. Customers often come here expecting generous portion sizes, which is true and appreciated, especially by those ordering for families or groups. The chicken wings—plain or paired with various fried rice options—stand out as a local favorite, and the boudin balls and cream puffs offer a bit of a unique twist for adventurous eaters familiar with Houston’s diverse palate.

Service here balances efficiency with friendliness. The ordering process moves quickly, which suits patrons popping in for a weekday lunch or a straightforward dinner run. It’s clear the kitchen prioritizes speed and freshness, with many commenting on the food being delivered hot and on time. At the same time, the vibe can feel a little rushed, especially during peak hours when there’s a steady stream of takeout and dine-in customers.

Most visitors are locals looking for reliable, affordable Chinese food that won’t break the bank. Those who appreciate consistency find Timmy Chan Original a solid choice, though if you’re seeking a quiet or relaxed dining environment, it may not hit that mark due to the brisk pace and active service style.

Early evenings and off-peak times offer the best chance for a more comfortable sit-down experience, while midday rushes lean more toward grab-and-go crowds. Overall, it’s a practical spot for filling, familiar meals with a distinctly Houston blend of flavors and a community vibe centered on no-nonsense lunch and dinner options.

I hadn’t been here since the 90s and the food was just amazing like always. Houston is truly a consistent place where you can get the same quality over and over.

Love Timmy Chans restaurants. This one was a little too hustle bustle for me to feel relaxed though the domining room is one of the nicer ones. Great location, staff were friendly and polite. Like the layout and design but still a little to pushy to get to the next order.

Food is always good since I’ve been ordering from here.. (maybe 2 months or so)I love the shrimp fried rice and their wings. Tonight I tried the beef n broccoli for the first time and it was good. Their egg rolls are always a hit too but tonight they were burnt. They were cooked too long (sigh). I was upset about that bc I was looking forward to them lol but over all they have good food and service is pretty str8 forward.

First time here with family.. one review said it a more order an go and that’s the truth. But do t get me wrong you can eat here till 7. We went around five and there was about six people ahead of us, but it went really fast.our order was made fresh and hot. I suggest you get the Kung pow chicken and the cream puffs. They’re so good well definitely come back for the wings. There was about 10 people who went in after and their orders were mostly wings. I had to come back and edit this .. can’t forget about the koolaid.. that will take you back to your younger days.

Solid spot to get cheap Chinese takeout I tried their chicken fried rice (large size), which came out to $13.48. The provide massive serving sizes - filling the entire takeout container. The interior has seen better days as most of the indoor seating is either cordoned off or furniture has been removed but there are still some spaces to dine-in.
